The Planning and Community Development Department is responsible for crafting long-term quality of life initiatives and managing growth in an economically sustainable and cost-effective manner. The department serves as the initial contact point for persons interested in developing land, building, registering as a contractor, or to apply for an occupational tax certificate in addition to administering the related codes.
In addition, this department counsels the Moultrie-Colquitt County Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Moultrie Historic Preservation Commission, and City Council with decisions relating to land use issues, subdivision review and approval, site planning, architectural design, and amendments to or variances from various City codes and ordinances. Also, applications for tree trim or removals of trees located within City of Moultrie right-of-ways are received in the planning department.
The Department contributes to neighborhood improvement and revitalization through administration and enforcement of housing codes designed to eliminate substandard housing and blight and coordinating with community members on strategic planning intended to redevelop areas of the City.
