General Nature of Work:

Performs skilled work in welding, installation, testing, and repair of gas mains according to prescribed standards. Runs new service to residences, lowers gas mains, sets rectifiers for cathodic protection and checks for gas leaks. Makes flow and pressure tests. Operates, trencher, tapping machine, pipe locator, bore machine, backhoe and other equipment as necessary in laying and repairing gas lines.

Training and Experience:

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with (2) years post-secondary or equivalent job-related coursework. Thorough knowledge of welding techniques and practices, and considerable experience in, mechanical maintenance or repair work. Must be a certified welder and must possess a valid driver’s license.
