Elephant Gravemarker

At Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, you will see a gravemarker unlike any other.  Standing in the cemetery is a white granite statue of a full-size baby elephant named Nancy.  It stands on a pink marble slab over the grave of circus owner William F. Duggan Sr. (1899-1950).  The elephant was carved to look like a baby elephant in the Haggan-Wallace Circus, which Duggan owned.  Reports say the baby elephant followed Duggan around like a puppy dog. The elephant is 7 feet 2 inches long, 5 feet 6 inches high, and 2 feet 4 inches thick.  It is carved from Cherokee Georgia marble and stands on top of an Etowah Pink Marble slab.

Address: 2354 GA-37, Moultrie, GA
