Hurricane Helene Update
Officials just met to discuss the latest on Hurricane Helene. According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Helene is projected to intensify and could severely impact Moultrie/ Colquitt County beginning Thursday into Friday.
What you need to know:
The Red Cross is working to open a shelter. As information becomes available, we will share it with you.
The safety of our first responders is critical. Once winds reach a certain speed, it will no longer be safe to send Firefighters, Linemen, EMS, Police Officers, Deputies, and others out into the storm.
Our Utilities Department does have an internal outage map that shows us when and where power goes out to City of Moultrie Utilities customers. We will be monitoring this throughout the storm and will work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Crews will be waiting on standby for winds to reach below 35 MPH. The City of Moultrie has contacted a crew from Texas, and they are on their way here now to help restore power once the storm has passed.
Ahead of the storm: Please do not put debris or commingle out for pickup. During the storm, it could float or be blown away, potentially blocking storm drains in your area. We will be picking up garbage a bit earlier than normal tomorrow. Please secure your rollout carts as soon as possible after pickup.
Sandbags are available for City of Moultrie residents at the Public Works Department, located at 1108 1st Street NE, from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM today, Wednesday, September 25th. Please note there will be a 10-bag limit per person.
Sandbags are available for Colquitt County residents at 209 Destiny Drive. Limit to 25 bags per individual/household.
All Colquitt County Schools and offices, along with Colquitt Christian Academy, will be closed on Thursday, September 26th, and Friday, September 27th.
